Koa, is our family Inoa. Our responsibility (kuleana), our joy, and – our families name! Koa, can be translated as a warrior, strong, courageous, and bold. It also points to the Koa trees native to Hawaii, once used for building canoes, weapons, tools, and more. We have dedicated our lives to embodying and understanding our kuleana on the deepest levels. And would like to share our skills to help people feel vibrant, healthy, empowered, and to inspire everyone to do the same for their families and community, in their own unique way!
Currently, Koa trees are on the verge of extinction due to becoming a prized wood, deforestation, and economic changes within the islands so we give support reforestation through our product sales. We support Kanaka (indigenous Hawaiian) efforts as much as possible through the imprints we can. A percentage of all profits generated from Koa House will go the following causes and noted on product sales:
Brent Kekoa Ramos | Founder | Head Instructor
Barbara Ramos | Founder | Spa Director | LMT
Stacey Sobczak & Angie Bruno | Esthetician
Christina Collins | Yin Yoga & Reiki
Brent is a life-long martial artist since the age of 8, and most well known for his award winning school, 108, blending traditional Shaolin styles with Muay Thai & Modern Training Methods with heavy influence on being style agnostic, DIY- 108 was based in Chinatown, San Francisco (2010 – 2018).
His background in martial arts runs deep within striking, traditional, and internal arts. He is currently training Jiu Jitsu as well. As a teacher, he has taught thousands of people from sketchy Chinatown alleyways, Oakland parks; and within companies like Google, all the way to his own professional school. Brent loves exposing and fusing the urgency and beauty of traditional styles, with the efficiency of modern technique.
His background in Hawaiian massage and healing comes 100% from Kumu Jeana Iwalani Naluai on the island of Maui, where his family and roots have also resided for 3 generations in the town of Lahaina. Currently, he is finalizing the Colorado state requirements for LMT.
Growing between Lahaina and Denver has placed a unique opportunity to help expose indigenous (Kanaka) Hawaiian values & culture to new audiences here on the mainland, which is the backbone goal behind our services offered here at Koa House. Hailing between Lahaina, SF, & Denver – his ancestry also extends to Irish & Filipino heritage. Brent also holds a B.A. in Education & History from Metro State University – Denver.
In media – Brent has spent over 15 years working in San Francisco, and Silicon Valley start-ups, ad tech firms, agencies, and supporting large-scale efforts at firms like Google, to advising global brands on media & marketing strategy. This paved a way into thought leadership, authorship, and an industry sherpa voice on all things media.
