Before Koa House, there was the infamous 108. We are probably most well known for our school, 108 Kung Fu back in Chinatown, SF from 2009-2017. What started as a fledgling park-group, evolved into a full-fledged commercial school amongst the San Francisco pantheon for about a decade – and we have now brought it to Denver! Everything you learn within this system is laser-focused to not only provide effective self-defense, but to also ignite a holistic practice and contemplative art that stretches a lifetime of practical benefits. Though steeped in deep authentic tradition, and lineage direct – our presentation is modern, with influences from Muay Thai & MMA to supplement. You can check out a quick video from our time in Chinatown, here. Or, pick up our manual with art from Jesse Michaels (Operation Ivy), here.
Form: Forms are choreographed sets either empty hand, or with ancient weapons. They are like physical catalogs of techniques and physical practices that have been passed down over centuries from the temples of old – now in you hands! The purpose is to offer fitness & self defense via martial intent, but to also pair a mental & spiritual practice alongside the physical. Strikes, Rolls, Animal Inspirations, or even weapons like Spears, Daggers, Swords, Ropes, and more – become metaphors and contemplations. The combined physical and contemplative practice truly make a unique offering – that we are sure you will love.
We teach the exact same curriculum for kids and adults, making it a great family endeavor. This class can be calibrated to meet any background, ability, and fitness level; and is a ranked art for all ages & backgrounds – No gloves or further equipment required.
